Much like a flame, Nyala’s music is an ever changing and moving concept. It can flicker and smoulder, with lots of tension, low in dynamic, but it has the possibility of growing into fiery improvisations. A melody, a rhythm, a pattern, a lyric, an atmosphere. All of these aspects and more are used in their music, solo or combined. Steady and repetitive or completely free and improvised, like a flame, dancing high and low or staying put for a little while. Casting shadows that show the reality in a different light.

Influenced by this unpredictable quality of flames, they strive to find new sounds and explore new ways of interpreting their own compositions. The starting point can be a fixed composition, pattern or lyric, but whenever they start to play, it develops into a new impression of the piece.

Stef’s improvisations and melodic lines, Jorrit’s groove and Pau Li’s lyrical singing and playing create a unique sound.
They are not bound to any genre or style and despite their different musical backgrounds, they find each other in Nyala, going into the music with an open mind and letting the creativity guide them.

Nyala performed in 2022 in Italy as part of Mittelfest in Cividale del Friuli, and they also played at the Carinthischer Sommerfest in Austria as winners of CS under 30. Nyala also performed in the Netherlands, among other places at the Roode Bioscoop in Amsterdam, the Willem Twee Toonzaal in Den Bosch, Oranjewoud Festival, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven and at November Music.

Since then, Nyala has recorded their debut album at the recording studio Fattoria Musica - Osnabrück in March 2023, A Way of Life is OUT NOW!!!
